Thrift Ministry

Low cost clothing and other goods are provided through PACS Thrift Ministry to assist individuals unwilling to accept charity. 211,320 people made use of the Thrift Store in 2009. Many friendships are forged while teaching money management skills. The thrift store was established in May of 1995 and is open to anyone, not just to low-income individuals or families. The purpose of this enterprise is three-fold:

  1. Provide a place where people can feel comfortable coming back time after time, thus giving our volunteers a chance to establish some rapport and friendship with the shoppers.
  2. Open the services and resources of PACS to a wider base of people. There are no minimum income qualification levels to shop at the PACS Thrift Store, thus we are able to reach more people who are marginally poverty level and above.
  3. Help provide an on-going source of revenue to help fund the operations of PACS. The store deals with only quality resale, relying on donations from the community to keep the store stocked adequately.
